Start by deciding what will move with you. Then arrange packing, transport and unpacking with clear responsibilities for each. An organizer may help with several stages, but a moving support service does not automatically include a truck or transport.
Choose the part you need help with
| Stage | Work to discuss | Before booking |
|---|---|---|
| Decluttering | Sort belongings and decide what stays. | Agree on who approves donations and disposal. |
| Packing | Wrap, box and label the items being moved. | Check materials, fragile items and the packing deadline. |
| Transport | Move belongings between properties. | Confirm who provides the vehicle and carries the load. |
| Unpacking | Put belongings away and make rooms usable. | Ask about storage planning and empty box removal. |
Local services that cover moving preparation
Bee Organized Greensboro ↗ lists downsizing, packing, unpacking and move management. Organizing by Chelsea ↗ also advertises packing and unpacking. Ask either company for an itemized scope, including materials and transport arrangements.
New Day Organizing ↗ separates preparation for a sale, packing, and unpacking with home setup. Its moving packages start at $2,400 for 24 service hours and one phase, $4,800 for 48 hours and up to two phases, or $9,600 for 96 hours and all three. Supplies are invoiced separately and additional hours may be needed. Confirm how team time is counted.
Keep the decisions with the right people
Set aside belongings that must stay, including personal documents and sentimental items. If you are helping a parent or another family member, agree on who can make decisions before the appointment. Keep undecided items separate from the donation pile.
Tell the organizer which rooms and everyday items you will need first in the new home. Measurements and photos of the available storage can help shape that conversation.
Arrange a destination for what is leaving
Ask whether the organizer takes donations away, coordinates another pickup or gives you a list of places to contact. Confirm load limits and what happens if a charity cannot accept an item.
Our Greensboro collection and donation guide explains where to start. For large items that need carrying out, compare removal companies before fixing the packing schedule.
Leave room between appointments
Agree on when packing must finish and who will be available for questions. Check building access, elevator bookings and the space needed for supplies. Allow for delays before arranging cleaning in the empty home.
At the destination, ask which rooms can be made usable first. Confirm whether the unpacking service flattens boxes, removes them or leaves them for you to arrange collection.
Questions you might have
Can I book unpacking without packing?
New Day advertises individual moving phases. Other companies also list unpacking, but you should confirm the minimum and whether it can be booked on its own.
Are packing materials included?
New Day says supplies are invoiced separately. Ask each company for its own materials policy and approval process.
Will an organizer move the furniture too?
Confirm lifting and transport separately. A service called move management or relocation assistance does not establish that a truck and moving crew are included.
Can someone help with downsizing?
Bee Organized and Simply Easy advertise downsizing. Describe the decisions and practical work you need, along with who will be present to approve them.
Does preparing a home for sale include staging?
Ask for staging, furniture hire, decorating and cleaning to be listed separately. Preparing rooms for listing photographs does not establish that all those services are included.
