Greensboro junk removal

Greensboro bulk pickup, donation and disposal

Some items need a crew. Others may qualify for collection or still be useful to someone else.

Start with the item and its condition. Usable furniture may suit a donation organization. For disposal, check whether your property and item qualify for city service. If you need indoor lifting or a larger cleanout, compare private removal quotes.

Check your city collection first

The city’s current bulk collection page ↗ says collection is every other week on recycling day, with items at the curb by 7 am. It lists furniture and mattresses, but also states a 50 pound item limit. Check with the city before putting out a heavy sofa.

Extra bags of trash are not bulk items. Carpet must be rolled and tied in bundles no longer than five feet. Construction debris has container limits; larger amounts need a separately quoted city pickup.

Find the schedule for your address

Use the GSO Collects calendar linked from the city collection FAQ ↗. A Greensboro mailing address does not by itself tell you which collection service covers your property. Apartment residents should also ask the property manager where items may be placed.

Appliances need a separate appointment through 336 373 2489. Confirm the item, preparation and collection point when you call. Check current city instructions before each pickup, especially if you are reading this guide after its source check date.

Keep chemicals and electronics separate

For household hazardous materials, start with the Guilford County disposal program ↗. It identifies the center at 2750 Patterson Street in Greensboro and serves county residents. Check the accepted materials and current instructions for your item before travelling.

Tell a removal company about paint, chemicals, batteries and electronics before booking. Do not assume they belong in the same load as furniture.

If you plan to haul the items yourself

Confirm which facility accepts your load and ask about current charges before hiring a vehicle. A mixed load may need more than one destination.

Greensboro’s waste department ↗ requires high visibility outerwear and closed toe footwear when unloading at its landfill and transfer station. Check the facility’s instructions as part of planning the trip.

Questions you might have

Will the city take my old couch?

Check the current item and weight rules first. The city lists furniture but also states a 50 pound limit. Call about a large or heavy couch before putting it outside.

Who takes donated mattresses?

Barnabas lists mattresses among its qualifying items, subject to its criteria. Freedom House excludes them. Confirm acceptance with the organization before arranging transport.

Why was my bulk item left behind?

Check the day, preparation, weight and item rules. Extra bags, appliances and some other materials need a different arrangement. Contact the city about your specific item.

Should I leave a donation outside for collection?

Wait for the organization to accept it and tell you where to place it. Exposure to weather can affect the condition.
