Greensboro, North Carolina

Home organizing
in Greensboro.

A closet you can use, a kitchen that is easier to put away or fewer boxes before a move. Find help with the part that keeps getting put off.

Start with what you want to change. You might need help making decisions about belongings, finding places for the things you keep or unpacking a new home. Describe that goal when you call, then ask how the organizer would approach the first session.

Choose a starting point you can describe

“I want to find clothes without emptying the closet” gives an organizer a clearer goal than “I need the whole house sorted.” Point out what gets in the way each day and which rooms matter most. You can discuss the rest once you know the likely time and cost.

For a garage, mention bulky items and anything you want removed. For a pantry, explain who uses it and what you struggle to reach. In a home office, agree on how personal papers will be handled.

Decide how involved you want to be

You may want to work beside the organizer, learn a routine or have agreed tasks completed while you are elsewhere. Ask which arrangements the company offers and when it will need you to make decisions.

Mark anything that must stay. Agree on a process for uncertain items, family belongings and purchases before the work starts. Nobody should have to guess whether a box of photographs is ready to leave.

Discuss photos and privacy before the visit

Ask who will see photographs of your home and whether any may be used publicly. Agree on access and how private documents will be handled. NAPO’s code of ethics ↗ covers confidentiality and advance communication of fees for its members. We have not verified membership for the companies in this guide.

Questions you might have

Do I need to tidy before an organizer comes?

Ask what preparation would help. Describe the space as it is, rather than spending the day hiding the problem you want help with.

Can I start with one closet or pantry?

Ask about the minimum session and what the organizer expects to achieve in that time. A package description is not a promise that every room takes the same number of hours.

Will I need to buy new storage?

Tell the organizer if you want to use what you already own. Agree on a product budget and approval process before anything is ordered.

Does organizing include cleaning?

Ask for cleaning tasks to be listed separately. Sorting belongings and choosing storage do not establish that floors, appliances or bathrooms will be cleaned.

Will the organizer take donations away?

Some packages include removal and others offer guidance or coordination. Check the amount, accepted items and any additional charge.
