If you want unscented products, have delicate surfaces or keep pets at home, discuss those details before booking. Ask for product names and agree where pets will stay during the visit. Labels such as “green” don’t tell you everything about what the cleaner will use.
Ask which products will be used
Alkemi’s FAQ ↗ discusses scent customization, while TCE’s FAQ ↗ says conventional products may be used when needed. Ask for the product names and check whether the company can offer an unscented option.
If you prefer your own products, ask whether the cleaners will use them and how much notice they need. Agree which jobs they will do with those products.
Agree on pet arrangements
Tell the company which pets will be home and agree where they should stay during the visit. Discuss entry and exit, closed doors and any off limit rooms. Ask whether pet hair or additional cleanup changes the scope or price.
A company’s description alone cannot confirm whether a product suits every person or pet. Get the product details before deciding.
Protect the surfaces you care about
Identify natural stone, finished wood, specialty coatings and other surfaces with specific care instructions. Share the manufacturer’s instructions with the provider and ask how they will be followed. Ask about the care your particular surface needs, even if the company describes its products as “eco”.
Keep a short written preference list
- Requested products or scent preferences.
- Surfaces requiring particular care.
- Pet location and agreed door arrangements.
- Off limit areas and approved alternatives.
- Who to contact if the requested product is unavailable.
Confirm that the team attending the appointment has the list. Reconfirm requests when changing service or provider.
Questions you might have
Does green cleaning mean fragrance free?
No. Ask about the actual products and an explicit unscented option.
Can I supply my own products?
Some providers discuss customer products, but arrangements and notice vary. Confirm with the office before the visit.
